PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2007-05-25 NOTE = "Errata for MRO CTX EDR volumes" END_OBJECT = TEXT END MROX_2978 through MROX_3004: These 27 volumes contain improved or never-before-archived images acquired from September 2006 to February 2015. The never-before-archived images are: B18_016702_1652_XN_14S147W.IMG G07_020777_1596_XN_20S161W.IMG G11_022599_1470_XN_33S223W.IMG G17_024973_1710_XN_09S238W.IMG D17_033886_2638_XN_83N237W.IMG D19_034702_1599_XN_20S169W.IMG D19_034703_2066_XN_26N202W.IMG F02_036477_1329_XN_47S023W.IMG F02_036477_1696_XN_10S029W.IMG F02_036478_1766_XI_03S058W.IMG In April 2019, the PDS Imaging Node sent us a new cumindex.tab with changes to reflect their moving of the improved CTX EDRs from these volumes to their original volumes, replacing the original EDRs and index.tab information. Volumes in the range above now contain only the never-before-archived images. In that process, some whitespace in the RATIONALE_DESC of P18_008228_1416_XN_38S269W was removed from the index.tab and cumindex.tab, so it no longer matches the RATIONALE_DESC in the EDR header; it is 'Terrain east of Hellas Planitia' in the EDR header but 'Terrain east of Hellas Planitia' in the tab files. This EDR was not originally on these volumes. MROX_1219: Image G03_019258_2541_XN_74N108W.IMG was acquired in 12-bit mode without companding (12 bits per pixel, every other pixel) to support ground testing of a different companding table. The image was companded on the ground with the standard flight companding table for inclusion on this volume. MROX_1214: Images G02_019171_1453_XN_34S233W.IMG and G02_019177_1501_XN_29S037W.IMG were acquired in 12-bit mode without companding (12 bits per pixel, every other pixel) to support ground testing of a different companding table. The two images were companded on the ground with the standard flight companding table for inclusion on this volume. MROX_0162: CTX was powered off at approximately 13:49 on 2007-07-20, during transfer of data from image P09_004596_1832_XN_03N108W.IMG from the instrument to the raw SSR. Data between lines 4151 and 4357 are repeated in lines 4358-52224 of that IMG. MROX_0001: The images acquired in mission phase CRUISE are not of Mars and were not acquired from orbit (MRO had not yet arrived at Mars), so some of the values (e.g., orbit number, solar distance) in the index.tab file are not meaningful. CRU_000013_9999_XN_99N999W.IMG was created manually from a source file 4A_04_0001001000_G_01.DAT which contained data gaps. General: The CTX planning periods are represented in image product filenames by the mission phase descriptor, as noted in the CTX SIS. The planning periods are: CRU Cruise instrument check-out/calibration (August-December 2005) MOI post-Mars Orbit Insertion instrument check-out (March 2006) T01 Transition to Primary Mission (September-October 2006) Pnn Primary Mission (November 2006 - August 2008) Bnn Primary and Extended Mission (September 2008 to June 2010) Gnn Extended Mission (July 2010 to present) where n is a digit from 0 to 9. MRO's Extended Mission starts on 20 December 2008 and ends on 31 December 2010. CTX planning periods for Primary Mission and beyond, however, are defined by Mars year and Earth month; the letter represents Mars year, and the number represents Earth month within that Mars year. The planning period naming scheme was developed to be consistent with that of the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) dataset to simplify comparisons of data across several Mars years. The solar longitude ('L sub s') range of a given numbered Earth month is roughly the same across the two datasets; for example, MGS MOC periods M12, E12, R12, and S12 correspond to MRO CTX periods P12 and B12. The letter B represents beta, the second Mars year of CTX imaging; G represents gamma, the third year.
