                       INDEX Directory Contents

The INDEX directory contains tabular index files, accompanied by
detached PDS labels, intended for database use.  The following files
are found in this directory:

INDXINFO.TXT - The file you are now reading.

APDINDEX.LBL - Detached PDS label for APDINDEX.TAB.
APDINDEX.TAB - The index table for the APXS derived products contained
               on this CD volume.

APEINDEX.LBL - Detached PDS label for APEINDEX.TAB.
APEINDEX.TAB - The index table describing all of the raw APXS EDRs.

APXS_INV.LBL - Detached PDS label for APXS_INV.TAB.
APXS_INV.TAB - A copy of Joy Crisp's APXS inventory table
               (APXS_INV.ASC and APXS_INV.HTM in the DOCUMENT
               directory) formatted as a PDS table.  This table
               contains a subset of the information in APEINDEX.TAB.

APXTEMPS.LBL - Detached PDS label for APXTEMPS.TAB.
APXTEMPS.TAB - Table of temperatures related to the APXS measurements.

ENGINDEX.LBL - Detached PDS label for ENGINDEX.TAB.
ENGINDEX.TAB - The index table for the Rover Engineering data included
               on this CD.

RVEINDEX.LBL - Detached PDS label for RVEINDEX.TAB.
RVEINDEX.TAB - The index table describing all of the Rover Camera EDRs.

RVMINDEX.LBL - Detached PDS label for RVMINDEX.TAB.
RVMINDEX.TAB - The index table describing all of the Rover Camera MIDRs
               (calibrated images, color images, mosaics, and anaglyphs).


                   Notes on Using the Index Tables

The index tables and the APXS_INV table contained in this directory
contain one row (or record) for each Mars Pathfinder raw or derived
data file on this CD volume.  The APXTEMPS table contains multiple
records for each APXS EDR product, reflecting multiple temperature
readings per APXS session.

All of the tables are formatted so that they can be read directly into
many data management systems.  All fields are separated by commas, and
character fields are enclosed in double quotation marks (").
Character fields are left justified, and numeric fields are right
justified.  Each record ends with ASCII carriage return <CR> and line
feed <LF> characters.  This allows the tables to be treated as fixed
length record files on computers that support this file type and as a
normal text files on other computers.

The "*.LBL" files are PDS label files that describe the content and
structure of the fields in their corresponding tables, including field
name, format, and description.  The values for start byte and number
of bytes listed in the label file do not include commas between fields
or quotation marks surrounding character fields.
