Mars Pathfinder Browser Help


This help page is intended to explain the various components of the Mars Pathfinder APXS and Rover browsers and to explain how they are related to each other. It also explains how to navigate through the browsers.

Navigating the Browser

There are many different levels of pages in this Mars Pathfinder Rover browser. They are designed to allow you to search for data using the following steps:

1 From the Mars Pathfinder Rover CD Browser page, select the instrument you are interested in, Alpha Proton X-ray Spectrometer or Rover Cameras.

2 From the Mars Pathfinder APXS Data Browser page, select the site id (APXS measurement number) for the investigation site you are interested in. On the Mars Pathfinder Rover Image Browser page there are four links for the EDRs (Experiment Data Records) and four for the MIDRs (Mosaicked Image Data Records). For the EDRs, select one of the instrument links to view the data acquired by that camera. For the MIDRs, select one of the types of mosaicsto view the images of that data type.

3 Once you are on an APXS: Directory A_xx page, you may select either a graphical icon to view a browse page with summary information, or you may select a PDS file name to download the PDS-formatted binary data file from the CD. From the Rover Camera xxxxx page, select one of the SCLK ranges to view the images acquired in that time period. From the Rover xxxx Mosaics page, select one of the Command Sequence Number ranges to view the images acquired with commands in that range. From the Rover Anaglyphs page, select one of the image icons to view the browse page and summary information for that image.
4 From the Mars Pathfinder APXS Spectra Axxxxxxx.TAB page, you may click on the full resolution TIFF image to view the graphical representation of the APXS spectra, or you may click on the PDS binary data file to download the full resolution data.

From this page, you may also click on any PDS keyword to view the definition of that keyword.

From the Rover Camera xxxxx - Spacecraft Clock Count Range: xxxxxxxxxx - yyyyyyyyyy page, select one of the image icons to view the browse page and summary information for that image. From the Rover xxxxx Mosaics - Command Sequence Number Range: xxxxx - yyyyy page, select one of the image icons to view the browse page and summary information for that image. From the Mars Pathfinder Rover Anaglyph Rxxxxxy.IMG page, you may download the full resolution PDS-formatted image from the CD by clicking on the image path and filename shown below the browse image. From this page, you may also click on any PDS keyword to see the definition for that keyword.
5   From the Mars Pathfinder Rover EDR Image Rxxxxxxx.IMG page, you may download the full resolution PDS-formatted image from the CD by clicking on the image path and filename shown below the browse image. From this page, you may also click on any PDS keyword to see the definition for that keyword. From the Rover xxxxx Mosaic Rxxxxxyz.IMG page, you may download the full resolution PDS-formatted image from the CD by clicking on the image path and filename shown below the browse image. From this page, you may also click on any PDS keyword to see the definition for that keyword.  
At any time, you may wish to view the Mars Pathfinder Keyword Definitions page. This page can be reached directly from the top page of the browser by clicking on the word definition in the third paragraph.

The definition page contains definitions for those PDS keywords that are shown on each browse page. The definition page can be accessed from the top page. The definition of a specific keyword in the browser can be viewed by selecting the highlighted keyword name on a browse image page.

This Mars Pathfinder Browser Help page is accessible from any page in the browser by clicking on the help icon which contains a red question mark, as shown below.

Icons

There are 5 types of icons or buttons on the various pages of this browser. Each icon is illustrated below, along with a brief explanation of its function within the browser.

Top Go to the browser top page.
Help Go to this help page.
Previous Display the previous page on the same level as the current one.
Up Move up to the page a level above the current one.
Next Display the next page on the same level as the current one.
