MGS was assumed to be pointed at the targeted cPROTO image location. MGSC_1568: The MOC narrow angle and wide angle focal plane temperature sensors erroneously reported constant values of 254.3 and 230.7, respectively, for images from S2000709 to S2000779. The focal plane temperatures listed for these images on MGSC_1568 were calculated from spacecraft engineering temperature data for that time period. The majority of these estimates are judged to be correct to +/- 1 and 2 degrees for the narrow angle and wide angle, respectively; a few estimates could be as much as 3 degrees off. MGSC_1455: Ancillary data for narrow angle image S0902531 were calculated without SPICE C-kernel information because C-kernel data were unavailable for part of the image. MGS was assumed to be pointed at the targeted cPROTO image location. MGSC_1445: Ancillary data for narrow angle image S0802722 were calculated without SPICE C-kernel information because C-kernel data were unavailable for part of the image. MGS was assumed to be pointed at the targeted cPROTO image location. MGSC_1399: Ancillary data for narrow angle image S0300314 were calculated without SPICE C-kernel information because C-kernel data were unavailable for part of the image. MGS was assumed to be pointed at the targeted cPROTO image location. MGSC_1394: Ancillary data for narrow angle image R2301334 were calculated without SPICE C-kernel information because C-kernel data were unavailable for part of the image. MGS was assumed to be pointed at the targeted cPROTO image location. MGSC_1391: Ancillary data for narrow angle image R2201097 were calculated without SPICE C-kernel information because C-kernel data were unavailable for part of the image. MGS was assumed to be pointed at the targeted cPROTO image location. MGSC_1236: Ancillary data for narrow angle image E2000526 were calculated without SPICE C-kernel information because C-kernel data were unavailable for part of the image. MGS was assumed to be pointed at the targeted ROTO image location although in fact MGS was slewing during acquisition of E2000526, so it did not hit the target. MGSC_1233: The discontinuity in image numbering from E1800504 to E1849152 and likewise from E1849302 to E1800551, is due to the MOC's internal sequencing software acquiring images autonomously following an uplink command failure. Such images are assigned an ID starting with 49152 to distinguish them from explicitly commanded images. MGSC_1226: Ancillary data for wide angle images from E1500225 to E1500276 were calculated without SPICE C-kernel information because C-kernel data were unavailable for part of the image; the lack of this data caused erroneous ancillary data to be computed. MGS was assumed to be nadir-pointed for images from E1500225 to E1500276; these images were acquired while MGS was in nadir (not Relay-16) attitude. MGSC_1223: Ancillary data for wide angle images E1400222 and E1400223 were calculated without SPICE C-kernel information because C-kernel data were unavailable for part of the image; the lack of this data caused erroneous ancillary data to be computed. MGS was assumed to be nadir-pointed for images E1400222 and E1400223; these images were acquired while MGS was in nadir (not Relay-16) attitude. MGSC_1176: Ancillary data for wide angle images E0901600 and E0901601 were calculated without SPICE C-kernel information because C-kernel data were unavailable for part of the image; the lack of this data caused erroneous ancillary data to be computed. MGS was assumed to be nadir-pointed for images E0901600 and E0901601; these images were acquired while MGS was in nadir (not Relay-16) attitude. MGSC_1167: Ancillary data for wide angle images E0800570 and E0800571 were calculated without SPICE C-kernel information because C-kernel data were unavailable for part of the image; the lack of this data caused erroneous ancillary data to be computed. MGS was assumed to be nadir-pointed for images E0800570 and E0800571; these images were acquired while MGS was in nadir (not Relay-16) attitude. MGSC_1149: Ancillary data for narrow angle image E0502961 were calculated without SPICE C-kernel information because C-kernel data were unavailable for part of the image; the lack of this data caused erroneous ancillary data to be computed. MGS was assumed to be nadir-pointed for image E0502961. MGSC_1118 and MGSC_1119: The MOC narrow angle and wide angle focal plane temperature sensors erroneously reported constant values of 255.3 and 230.6, respectively, for images from M2201352 to M2201572, and 255.2 and 230.6, respectively, for images from M2201988 to M2202210. The focal plane temperatures listed for these images on MGSC_1118 and MGSC_1119 were calculated from spacecraft engineering temperature data for that time period. The majority of these estimates are judged to be correct to +/- 1 and 2 degrees for the narrow angle and wide angle, respectively; a few estimates could be as much as 3 degrees off. MGSC_1110: This volume also contains the following images from previous volumes: Images M0700789 and M1202598 were found to be better in the realtime operations version than from the JPL level 0 CD source. These versions are included on MGSC_1110. Their parameters appear at the end of the imgindex.tab and cumindex.tab files on the same volume. MGSC_1099: Ancillary data for context images M1300225 and M1300823 were calculated without SPICE C-kernel information because C-kernel data were unavailable for part of the image; the lack of this data caused erroneous ancillary data to be computed. MGS was assumed to be nadir-pointed for images M1300225 and M1300823. MGSC_1098: This volume also contains the following images from previous volumes: Images M0201013, M0804457, and M0903608 were found to be better in the realtime operations version than from the JPL level 0 CD source. These versions are included on MGSC_1098. Their parameters appear at the end of the imgindex.tab and cumindex.tab files on the same volume. MGSC_1064: Ancillary data for narrow angle image M0803208 were calculated without SPICE C-kernel information because C-kernel data were unavailable for part of the image; the lack of this data caused erroneous ancillary data to be computed. MGS was assumed to be nadir-pointed for image M0803208. MGSC_1057 and MGSC_1058: The MOC narrow angle and wide angle focal plane temperature sensors erroneously reported constant values of 268.9 and 243.0, respectively, for images from M0705439 to M0706057. The focal plane temperatures listed for these images on MGSC_1057 and MGSC_1058 were calculated from spacecraft engineering temperature data for that time period. The majority of these estimates are judged to be correct to +/- 1 and 2 degrees for the narrow angle and wide angle, respectively; a few estimates could be as much as 3 degrees off. MGSC_1048: The discontinuity in image numbering from M0403839 to M0449182 and likewise from M0449232 to M0403861, is due to the MOC's internal sequencing software acquiring images autonomously following an uplink command failure. Such images are assigned an ID larger than 49152 to distinguish them from explicitly commanded images. MGSC_0008: The cumindx.tab entry for image SP243306 on MGSC_0008 is incorrect. The parameters in that entry actually correspond to image SP244306; a corrected version is included on MGSC_0010. The first cumindx.tab entry for image SP245503 on MGSC_0008 is incorrect. The parameters in that entry actually correspond to image SP244503; a corrected version is included on MGSC_0010. General: As a point of clarification, if an image is to be flipped left-right because its USAGE_NOTE has a value of 'F', it may still have to be rotated into a north-up orientation as indicated by the NORTH_AZIMUTH parameter. That is, a roughly north-up orientation may still require a rotation of 180 degrees after flipping. The MOC team has identified that the data for the following images were of better quality in the realtime operations data retrievals than were recorded on the Level 0 Science and Engineering CD-ROMs: We are planning to fix this as soon as possible, and the update will be available on the website specified in readmoc.txt. If the user has access to SunOS/Solaris, it is recommended that readmoc be run on that platform in the meantime, as the sunos readmoc version does not appear to exhibit this problem. Regarding numbering of planning periods (see aareadme.txt): Starting on 01 September 1999, the planning periods were defined to start on the first of each month (specifically at the first descending equator crossing occuring after 0 GMT on the first of each month). Simultaneously, the numbering scheme was synchronized such that September 1999, the seventh month of MGS Mapping, was named M07. Subsequent months are named M08, M09, etc. Therefore, the denominations of M05 and M06 were not used. On 01 February 2001, the First Extended Mission Phase began (see mission.cat). This coincided with the start of a second Mars year of science data acquisitions with MGS, with an Ls close to that at the beginning of the Mapping Mission Phase. The planning periods used by the MOC team were therefore denoted E01, E02, etc. starting at the first descending equator crossing after 01 February 2001. On 01 January 2003, we began the third Mars year of science data acquisitions with MGS, with an Ls close to that at the beginning of the Mapping Mission Phase. One of the primary goals of this part of the mission is to provide relay support for Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Project; reflecting this, the planning periods used by the MOC team were denoted R01, R02, etc. starting at the first descending equator crossing after 01 January 2003. On 01 December 2004, we began a fourth Mars year of imaging. The goals of this mission phase include both continuing science data acquisition and supporting other Mars missions such as Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (during its aerobraking phase) and Phoenix and the Mars Science Laboratory (landing site selection). Because supporting other missions is a major component of this year's activities, the planning periods after the first descending equator crossing of 01 December 2004 are denoted S01, S02, etc.. The MGS/MOC team has made every effort to comply with PDS standards known to us at the time the volume was generated, but for some parts of the MOC volume as presented here either no standard was available or ambiguities existed. Producers of future PDS volumes should consult the latest available PDS Standard for generation of their own volumes. In particular, at the time of the creation of the MOC products, PDS standards for labeling software packages had not been defined, so the software directory tree contains no labeling information.
