PUBLICATION_DATE = 1998-05-01 END_OBJECT = TEXT END NOTE: Most scientific analysis of NIMS data should be done on spectral image cubes. Versions of these cubes generated by the NIMS team are available in another CD-ROM series. If these are inadequate, the EDRs may be processed into spectral image cubes. This can be done with cube generation software available in either the ISIS or Vicar processing systems, which must be obtained independently. See VOLINFO.TXT for details. Source code for software which performs simple data manipulation and access functions for the NIMS Phase 2 Experiment Data Record (EDR) files contained on this CD-ROM is available at the NIMS web site: http://jumpy.igpp.ucla.edu/~nims. The two programs are EDRDMP2 and ADDLAB. There is also a CDCOPY command file to be used on older VAX/VMS systems for copying data files from CDROM media. A brief description of each program and the command file follows. Detailed instructions on their use accompany the source files. EDRDMP2 _______ EDRDMP2 is a Fortran program which displays data values from a NIMS EDR in a selected spacecraft clock range. Its use does, however, requires some familiarity with the design of the NIMS instrument and the order in which NIMS data is transmitted from the spacecraft. As noted above, science analysis should normally be done from NIMS cubes which may be acquired separately or generated from the EDRs. To use EDRDMP2, you must understand the way the NIMS EDR is organized in spacecraft clock time, and the way the NIMS instrument data is structured by detector, grating position and secondary mirror position. For this information, see the file NIMSINST.TXT and chapters 3 and 4 of VOLINFO.TXT. ADDLAB ______ ADDLAB is a C program which combines the VICAR label found in the VIC subdirectories and the PDS-labelled data files found in the EDR subdirectories. The program is used solely to create a file for the VICAR NIMS cube generation software, which requires VICAR-labelled EDRs. CDCOPY.COM __________ The CDCOPY command file may be used on older VAX/VMS systems for copying data files from CDROM media to VMS magnetic disk media. This command file is used in conjunction with the VFS-ISO 9660 MOUNT field test kit which allows VMS interface with the CDROM ISO volume and directory standard. CDCOPY is no longer needed on systems running VMS version 6.0 or later versions.
