PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM SPACECRAFT_NAME = GALILEO_ORBITER INSTRUMENT_NAME = "NEAR INFRARED MAPPING SPECTROMETER" INSTRUMENT_ID = NIMS OBJECT = TEXT NOTE = "Description of the INDEX directory on the NIMS Cube CD-ROM set" PUBLICATION_DATE = 1998-12-10 END_OBJECT = TEXT END The INDEX directory contains various tables summarizing the data in the cubes on this CDROM. Each table is accompanied by a detached PDS label with the same name and a .LBL extension, which contains a complete description of the structure of the table. Section 6, "Index Files" of the VOLINFO.TXT file found in the DOCUMENT directory provides complete documentation on the content of each of the index tables described below. Volumes after the first one in this series will have, in addition to the index files for that volume, cumulative index files for all products up to that point. However, since Galileo phase 2 (Jupiter) operations are quite different from phase 0 (cruise) operations, certain index tables from the two phases cannot be combined. INDEX.TAB: The index table contains an entry for each cube or tube on the CD. Each entry includes information about filenames and paths, time range of data, target, instrument status, cube or tube size and selected geometry ranges. OBSCAT.TAB: The OBServation CATalog table contains an entry for each phase 2 observation for which data is present on the CD. (This includes all observations of Jupiter and its satellites during the G1 Encounter.) Each entry includes the observation name, spacecraft clock range, starting universal time, principal target and various NIMS instrument parameters. It is used by ISIS NIMS cube generation software to point to the EDRs containing data for an observation. NOTE: this table is used for NIMS cube and tube generation, and does not follow the recommended PDS standard for ASCII tables which requires that strings be quoted. OBSCAT0.TAB: This table is the phase 0 version of OBSCAT.TAB and contains fewer parameters. It includes entries for observations of Gaspra, Ida and from the Shoemaker-Levy 9 encounter. (See NOTE above for OBSCAT.TAB.) BOOMCAT.TAB: The BOOM CATalog table contains an entry for each boom obscuration file (currently just one) needed to process NIMS data since the first encounter with Venus. Each entry includes the filename, the CD volume where it resides, and the time interval of its applicability.
