It is used by the NIMSBOOMSTEN ISIS program, as well as the Vicar cube generation software. The .DRK files are average dark current files derived from "heaven dark" or other special observations at different times in the E1 and E2 encounters, and from off-limb data taken during the Venus nightside observations. They contain VAX floating point numbers for use by the ISIS CUBERAD program for converting raw DN cubes to radiance cubes, by the RADGEN program in the ISIS cube generation software, and by the Vicar cube generation software. ASCII text versions are also provided (with .ASC extension). These contain not only the average dark current values, but their standard deviations, as well as a histogram of their occurrence. (Each filename begins with characters representing the encounter: V, E1 or E2. The number following the G in the filename represents the gain state, and the letter following the M represents the mode: L=long, F=full, S=short, X=fixed. The number after the V is a version number.) (Venus dark files are included here because they were not available when the first CD-ROM was published. E1 dark files are included also for completeness.) Calibration files (.CAL) will be included in later volumes of this CD-ROM set. They are presently distributed with both the ISIS and Vicar cube generation software. See [DOCUMENT]VOLINFO.TXT for information.
